Hospital patients in Hanford and Selma have it their way at mealtimes with a room service that Adventist Health features at its three sites.
With the hotel-style service, called Bedside Bistro, each patient receives a menu from which he or she may order breakfast, lunch and/or dinner by phone. They choose from such delicious entrées as chicken cobb salad, charbroiled tri-tip, chicken enchiladas and huevos rancheros. The meals are cooked to order and delivered to the patient's room in 45 minutes or less.
“No other hospitals in Kings, Tulare and southern Fresno counties offer room service,” says Hanford dietary director Rock Patterson, who worked in restaurants for many years before his career in hospitals.
Patterson said he's thrilled to provide a hotel-style of food delivery. “We can provide patients with better food and delivery without compromising on nutrition,” he said, adding that entrée ingredients are adapted for cardiac, diabetes and mineral-modified patients. “We're really proud of this.”
